Read Aloud Chattanooga is now at Boynton!
Boynton Elementary was recently privileged to host guest artist, Gail Hinton. Gail, under the direction of Read Aloud Chattanooga founder, Bill Thurman, created a beautiful mural that encourages students, parents and teachers to read aloud to children. Read Aloud Chattanooga is a literacy program created by Bill Thurman. Based on research by Jim Trelease, author of The Read Aloud Handbook, Read Aloud's mission is to educate parents on the importance of reading aloud to children beginning in the womb. Parents that read to their children create a positive memory associated with words and books, thus encouraging the child to develop a love of reading.
All over Chattanooga you will find schools, children's hospitals and church daycare facilities that have been touched by Read Aloud. The murals, painted by muralist Gail Hinton, depict scenes that promote reading as a joyful experience. These designs create an environment geared towards expressing how enjoyable reading can be. Students at Boynton interacted with the artist daily as she created the mural for Boynton. Each mural she creates has a personal touch that represents that school's individuality.
